a place for lesbian and bisexual women

The Court of Appeal has ruled that (unmarried and) same sex couples and couples in a civil partnership can now be considered as adoptive parents. The challenge to the adoption law was brought by the Northern Ireland Human Rights Commission and the Court has agreed that preventing someone from even being considered to adopt because of their relationship status is discriminatory. The Court said that the Department (DHSSPS) put forward no justification to exclude same sex couples from being eligible to adopt and that preventing couples in a civil partnership from adopting is “absurd and irrational”.
